A few thoughts about criticism…
As a leader, you have to give criticism from time to time. I you aren’t doing it, you aren’t being a good leader. However, when you have a criticism, make sure it is valid and then share it with grace and humility.
On the other hand, sometimes people criticize you.
Sometimes they do it well. Let’s face it, quite a few people do this with us, but we ignore it because it goes so well.
Sometimes they do it poorly. These are the times we remember. Typically, because these conversations are painful and or aggravating, we may throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak. That is almost always unwise.
When we receive poorly shared criticism, instead of evaluating a harsh delivery, which is a separate issue, we should evaluate if the critique is valid. Just because the messenger acts like a jerk, doesn’t mean the message is off point.
What else?
