Great insights. I’m thankful that Penn would take the time to discuss this. I wish that more Christians understood what he was trying to say. I pray that God will use this encounter, and possibly others to open the door of his heart and allow him to see that God is real, and Christ can be a part of his life.

It’s amazing what a difference one person can make. That man could’ve been a huge turn-off to Christ (as so many often are), but instead he exhibited a Christ-like attitude and genuine concern for the spiritual well-being of Mr. Penn. I want to be that way too.

You know, Matt, I was most struck by the statement – something to the effect of “How much do you have to hate someone to really believe that they are in eternal danger and just keep your mouth shut for the sake of social convenience.”

Does that mean the Apostle Paul hated people since he wrote 2/3 of the New Testament and never mentioned hell once?

    John,

I am assuming that you are referring to my quote of this statement, “How much do you have to hate someone to really believe that they are in eternal danger and just keep your mouth shut for the sake of social convenience.”

Your question is based on a faulty premise…

Not mentioning hell is the same as not offering the Gospel and salvation.

The flip side is that Paul, writer of 2/3 the NT, is almost always writing about salvation, and that through grace, not of works, not of the law; and the results of salvation, the struggle with the old man, the inability of the carnal man to understand the things of God, since he does not have the mind of Christ, how the Holy Spirit relates to and intercedes for the Christian; and on occasion he gives advice on running the church.

It’s just silly to intimate that Paul is living contrary to Penn’s statement here.
