Non-stereotypical Pastoring

Tags: ,

One of the benefits of not looking like (read: dressing like, talking like) the stereotypical Southern Baptist Pastor is that sales people who drop in the church walk right by me.

Like two this morning.  :)

Dude, I’m with you. I walked in the office yesterday in a t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes with my laptop in a backpack over my shoulder and the two salesman at the desk didn’t even see me, it seems. As they stood there in their shirt and tie looking for someone, I’m sure they must have thought I was the Youth Pastor or something. A sweet moment no doubt.

That’s funny, guys. My office is the first one people come to when they enter the building and I typically leave the door open so I catch folks asking for directions, pleading for assistance, etc. Life can be a ministry of interruptions at times, but some of these have certainly been divine appointments.

Same thing here. We’re a new storefront church. People stick their heads in the door and ask, “What kind of store is this? When do you open?” I meet them in my normal daily garb: shorts, t-shirt, baseball cap and flops. I tell them it’s not a store, it’s a church. The next question usually is, “Who’s the pastor?” When I tell them, “Me!”, some run, some come back Sunday!

Oh, btw, noticed one of your posts with related content is “Ray Boltz confesses he is gay.” Hmmm.

    Rob,

The “related posts” is a list generated by a plugin that picks posts based on popularity of the post, tags and categories.

For whatever reason, it thinks that post is related.
