Funeral Today for a Veteran and a Friend
Thursday, June 5th, 2008 @ 12:16 pm
We are burying a good man today. Services at our church at about 1:00 Central. He was an encourager and a prayer warrior. He was also a veteran. I am going to miss him very much.
In 1 Thess. 4:13-18, Paul tells the Thessolanicans that he didn’t want them to grieve like the rest of men, who had no hope. I’m afraid that we often interpret this verse that we shouldn’t grieve since we have hope. I think it is better interpreted that we grieve differently: like people who have hope as opposed to the lost for whom death is an inescapable abyss about which they make up versions of Heaven that reveal their need for hope.
I grieve his loss today, but I have no doubt that he is in Christ. He affirmed his faith to me without prompting as the end grew near. “It’s just something you want your pastor to know.” He said.
Amen. I’ll see you again, soon, Jim.
