So I thought I’d show you a few pictures from Vietnam that I had never uploaded before. Weird thing is, they are some of my favorites.

If you like ‘em and want to see more, then check out the photoblog.

At the top of this building is the City View Cafe in one of the night time hotspots in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This is the view at night from the balcony of the City View Cafe atop that building.

From the City View

Standing in the middle of a swarm of traffic in that intersection, I caught this young boy crossing the street.

In a Sea of Traffic

Finally, this is the Night Train to Sapa that I mentioned before, but never did get a picture up capturing the amber awesomeness of this transportation staple in Vietnam.

Thanks for the memories. Let’s go back. Soon.

    Art,

These are some of your best photos. I especially like the second and third. The third, with the boy, really captures the motion all around him. Good stuff.

I liked the photo of the boy crossing the street; the blurred motorcycle really captures the moment.

    Enjoy,

    Art,

I appreciate you and your photos. You do a wonderful job of communicating Christ.

I must admit some mixed feelings when I read and see things about Vietnam. I was a teenager in the late 1960s and the nightly reports of the Vietnam War on the network news still linger in my memory. Friends of mine lost their lives over there and thus I feel inclined toward some loyalty to them in the sense that I think perhaps I should not want to help anything in Vietnam.

However, I am very encouraged to read your reports of mission trips to reach the lost in Vietnam for Christ. It is my prayer that the people of Vietnam will prosper in the glory of the Lord. Isn’t it good to know that Jesus can redeem anyone and anything, even leftover feelings of distrust? Our God is an awesome God!

    Les

Thanks for the encouragement. These are some of my faves as well.

Jimmy - Spring Break, and pray we have some new staff by then so I can go.

Les - I think most Americans 35 or older have some internal baggage relating to the war in Vietnam. However, as I mentioned while there, the Vietnamese people regard our war with them as somewhat of a blip on the radar. They had a war with China before and after their war with us. And they never declared war on us. We inserted ourselves there, so they could have a reason to bear a grudge, but they don’t. The military has now promoted leadership throughout the party and the army that was not even alive during that war. It’s just not a big deal for them - generally speaking.

For us, though, we deal with the great division we experienced over the war, the resentment of the draft, the resentment of veterans who were drafted and then called “baby killers” upon their return and the greatest baggage we have is that we lost. It hurts our pride.

Also, we have such an anti-communism sentiment as a part of the American Culture. I really had to come to accept that the Communist Government of Vietnam wants the best for its people. That is not what I was taught, but it is what I found. That’s the reason they let openly Christian servants come in to help their people and live the Gospel as well.

Well, if you want more of that, check out the posts during the trip. It was enlightening.
