Forrest Pollock is gone

Bell Shoals Baptist Church - Pastor’s Page
On the Bell Shoals website today is the notice that Forrest Pollock and his 13 year old son have passed from this world. They were on a trip in the family owned aircraft, piloted by the pastor.
This event has shaken me more than I could have realized. It is tragic, to be sure, but Forrest is etched in my memory as dynamic and alive, swaying the crowd in Greensboro. Many of us … many who frequently received and still receive credit for the election of Frank Page … immediately attributed the election to the nomination speech of Forrest Pollock. I did and still do.
I say that not to tap into the political realm of the SBC, but to capture the magnitude of a young, vibrant man who stood to the microphone and held the SBC in his sway, if but for a moment, at a crucial point in our history.
On my heart more than that moment is the loss of his 13 year old son. Having a 13 year old son myself, I am caught by the overwhelming drive to keep him from harm and I sensed that particular loss of the Pollock family, immediately in my mind.
My heart and prayers are with the Pollocks and with Bell Shoals. I encourage you to pray for them as well.

Tragic for his family and church. I still remember that speech. I went and shook his hand afterwards. What a smile. I can’t imagine the pain his family and the church are facing. Sobering. I will pray for them.

A former church family, moved my military duty, had been pastored by Pollock for the last few years. They thought very highly of him and have been crushed by his loss. The body of Christ has taken a loss in giftedness and faithfulness in his passing. God bless the family and church.

A terrible loss that reminds us all just how mortal we are. We must all work while it is day for the night is coming.
Cool new look to your blog, Art. I like it.

I didn’t know Pastor Pollock much, I had only gone to the Church a short time. But he was always a good man when I saw him. I know a man like him is a better place now. God bless his soul and those of his family.

Forrest hired me as a church planter while he was pastor of Istrouma in Baton Rouge. He was a joy to work with and for. He was a man of great vision, character, and joy. His personal mentorship and his family’s hospitality to mine impacted my ministry. Indeed a great loss. I was supposed to have lunch with him in 3 weeks while on vacation. I will surely miss that. His family is precious, please keep them in your prayers.

So very sad to hear about his death. He was always a wonderful person. Even in high school you could see that God had purposed him for wonderful things.
