It’s because I read the posts that I can say you didn’t tell me anything. If you predicted the score to be that close then the only place we’ve differed is in our perspective on the MU/KU game and you didn’t tell me anything about that. ;)

Did you not read either the first post or this one? Are you just arguing without listening to the points and using logic or reason to attempt your weak contradictions?

I predicted that OU would win, but that it would be within two touchdowns. I admitted my underestimation of OU in this post, but other than that… I told you so.

Frankly, that’s a fair enough assessment. I’m not sure about the skill player comment, but I am inclined to agree.

I don’t know of any Mizzou fans that thought they would win because they were ranked #1. I thought they would win because of a core set of expectations:

Expectations for a win against OU:

1) Jeremy Maclin would make a play. Didn’t happen.
2) Tony Temple would keep the attack balanced. Didn’t happen.
3) Chase Daniel would pick apart a suspect pass D. Daniel was running for his life most of the time.
4) Not much was expected from the Mizzou D. They met that expectation!

I felt they had to have a close to perfect game in the things they slightly controlled, like play calling. That did not happen. OU was never surprised, which put the onus back on execution, which takes us back to the big boys in the trenches. You know, the players no one talks about? ;)

Swap the skill players for both teams and the same team would have won.

I do think Missouri got shafted on the bowl scenario. How do you beat Kansas and then fall behind them to a lesser bowl? No disrespect to Kansas, but their marquee win was against a 6-6 OSU team.

BTW, do you think A&M will be any better under their new coach?

And for those keeping score: OU wins the first back-to-back Big XII championships in conference history taking home number 5 this weekend. No other Big XII team has more than two.

Normally I hate it when people say “I told you so.” But this time, I’m going to make an exception. You deserve it Art.

It seemed to me, as I watched the game, that Missouri played just like they played all year. And it would have been enough to win, provided they were not playing the Sooners. Unfortunately for Tiger fans, they were, and OU made them look like JV.

What surprised me was the way Missouri fans looked so shocked at the outcome. I think they must have believed the pollsters that put the Tigers at number one. Just because your team is ranked at the top, it doesn’t mean you’re really that good. It certainly does not mean you’re unbeatable. OU fans know that first hand.

Let’s just say that Mizzou did not lose because OU is so much better. They did not lose because they stink as a football team. They lost because they were pre-destined in eternity past to lose on Saturday. It was a pre-determined event, that would have happened no matter how well Chase Daniel played.

Now you’re reading more into what I wrote than what’s there. Something learned from SBC blogging, no doubt… ;)

Mizzou DID play it’s worst game of the year, and it WAS an ugly performance. Couple that with the great performance OU put on (possibly their best of the season), and you get the bloodbath we saw Saturday. That Mizzou played (and was coached) poorly does not take away from OU’s performance. I didn’t say that it did. Mizzou may not have been able to beat OU on Saturday even if they would have had their best performance of the season. We’ll never know, though, will we?

Anyway, the only important game left now in the college football season involves my hometown D2 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats… a rematch of the prior two years’ championship games with Grand Valley, except in the semifinals at home in good ole Maryville, MO. Xavier Omon for the Harlon Hill (the D-2 Heisman)!

Mizzou played badly because OU beat them to a pulp. The spread is a timing offense that needs the QB to go unmolested for 2.5 seconds, after which he is to throw the ball off of a pre-read, what he sees or into the stands, if nothing is there. Chase Daniel couldn’t get that time because the OU defense manhandled the front line, brought zone blitzes and generally disrupted everything that the Tigers do well – including the running game.

You can’t have it both ways, John. Last week, I said Kansas beat itself with some bad decisions but could’ve overcome and you said it was just Mizzou outplaying them in every facet of the game. Now OU has decimated Mizzou and you say it wasn’t OU, but the Tigers who just didn’t play up to their potential.

Well, I concede that KU probably fell apart early last week because the Tigers were all over them, and that is why they made some game changing bad decisions. A little poise could have changed the outcome, but it didn’t. I don’t think poise would have made the difference for the Tigers. It surely couldn’t have hurt, but Stoops outcoached Pinkel. Don’t be shocked. He outcoaches alot of people. On top of that, as Kirk Herbstreet said last night, if OU had played like that all year, it would be a no brainer – they would be the No. 1 team in the nation and playing for the Title.

And remember, as promised, I rooted for the Tigers. I really wanted them to play for the championship.

As for the playoffs, the University Presidents are never going to allow it, because the money for the bowls now goes to the schools. If a playoff is instituted, the NCAA would be in charge – and they would take all the money.

Why does a playoff system exist and work in the lower divisions? No money, no control issues. Big money – millions of dollars – and the people in charge are not about to give up control no matter how good your ideas are.

You’d think that blogging the SBC for two years would have taught you that. ;)

Mizzou played its worst game of the year Saturday. Horrible execution, horrible coaching decisions… just an all-around ugly performance.

Then yesterday… snubbed by the BCS. They took two teams ahead of them that they’d beaten during the year (Illinois and Kansas). The system is a joke. We need a playoff system… if all other college football divisions can do it, so can D-1. Just use the bowls for playoff sites, and fill the ones not used as playoff sites with non-playoff teams. But that would make too much sense now, wouldn’t it?

Anyway, yeah. It hurts bad. Real bad.
