Let these stones be a witness to what we have done here this day.

Hang in there

Aug 22nd, 2007 | By art rogers | Category: Blogging

For whatever reasons, my blog bit the dust last night. The interesting thing about it though was that I was contacted by a couple of church members right away to let me know. Then I had a few bloggers let me know.

Frankly, I am thrilled to death that my church members were reading my blog and were doing so more diligently than those in the blogosphere I have come to know over the last couple of years. Not that I don’t care about a diverse readership. I do. But mostly I am thrilled that I am making some inroads into the lives of our church family through this blog.

Honestly, I am writing more with them in mind all the time, so this has been an affirmation.

I won’t lie and say that my pride didn’t rise up and tempt me when I went from 7,000 hits a day during the SBC and 1,500 per day on average to about 250 to 350 per day now, depending on what I write. That statcounter can be useful, but it can also be idolatrous.

Anyway, I am grateful for those who think I have something thoughtful to say nowdays and truly appreciate your dropping by.

The blog seems to be running all right now. I am going to write a post tonight about the funeral I did this morning and have it drop tomorrow morning. It was a military funeral and it was incredible to experience the wash of emotions. Well, I don’t want to spill it all now. Come back tomorrow and check it out.

  1. Keep up the good work, brother. Be encouraged and press on!

  2. Good, glad you’re back.

  3. Thanks guys. From two men I greatly respect for the theological depth on their blogs – I appreciate it.

  4. In hopes of getting a great big cudo like Joe and Timmy did I will say “Keep up the work, be encouraged press on, good, glad you’re back.”

  5. CB,

You know I love you like you were kin to me. You are a role model – someone to whom I look up with great respect.

I’m not just saying that because you commented, either. :)

  6. CB,

That should be: Keep up the good work, brother. Be encouraged and press on! Good, glad you’re back.
You missed the word brother and caps on Good.

  7. As I said; “Keep up the work, be encouraged, press on, good, glad you’re back.” :-)

Seriously, you are a “TEN RING” guy, Art.

  8. Art,

I actually noticed that your blog was down yesterday, but I didn’t say anything because I thought that the guru of pastoral blogging surely knew that by then. :)

My hits are also way down since I stopped blogging about SBC stuff. It is liberating. But, I am much more proud to let visitors to our church know about my blog now. Then, they won’t have to ferret through a bunch of junk and they can actually read something about Jesus.

CB, you’re my hero as well. As are Joe and Timmy. Heck, let’s just give hugs all around!

  9. Hugs all around it is.

  10. I still haven’t installed a hit counter on my new blog. Haven’t decided if it is worth it.

Probably I would see the same thing you have: controversy sells, important stuff doesn’t.

  11. Ahem….I am just a quiet reader who nearly panicked when I couldn’t get your blog to pull up. The message I got was that it was MY server and to send you an e-mail to let you know about my troubles so you could “let me in” considering your server was reading me as spam! Well, I tried that but the e-mail was rejected as well.

I was just about to go into mourning for another lost pertinent blog (there seems to be an epidemic of bloggers quitting) but kept trying to pull your blog up, not willing to concede. Finally, it came up! I was soooo relieved!!!

And thank you for your little note at the end of your posting to let us know you were having troubles. I am not computer savvy and was wondering if my server was going to start telling everybody I was spam.

Anyway, I appreciate your posts. Please don’t stop!

  12. marie,

Thank you very, very much. I truly appreciate your words. I am glad this is meaningful to you.
