From time to time we all get tired of the negative that can swirl around convention politics. Over the last week or so, I have tried to focus on a couple of really encouraging stories that will inspire you. This is another one.
FBC, Euless has invited John Meador, who is deaf, to pastor their church. Chased him, actually, until he finally relented to them and the Lord. This is not a deaf ministry church, either. Deaf ministries are great, and I am thrilled that they exist. The outstanding thing about this story is that his deafness is a non issue. They are pursuing him as a loving, genuine pastor who loves the Word and exegetes it clearly. Period.

PS: There are a few things that are brewing in the SBC. I will be bringing them to you at the appropriate time.
PPS: Bonus points if you can tell us the “Conservative Resurgence” connection in this story. Ben, you are excluded from playing. ;)

Great story Art!
I don’t think I would have gone with only 85% of the vote though!

Not sure how it is connected to the resurgence, but John Meador was on the 1999 Committee on Nominations when he was pastor of MacArthur Blvd Baptist Church in Irving, Texas.

Meador and David Allen both pastored MacArthur Blvd. in Irving…Allen is now Dean of Theology at SWBTS. Allen reports to Patterson. Patterson is the conservative resurgence co-King.
We could play six degrees and come up with lots of fun theories ;)

Bill Anderson and Jimmy Draper are both past pastors @ FBC Euless as well. Both were also friends @ Baylor and SWBTS. Now, we have John Meador (many wishes for a blessed ministry by the way!), who was on the 1999 Committee on Nominations while @ MacArthur Blvd. His copastor is now Dean of Theology @ SWBTS. Paige Patterson is SWBTS’ president.
Ah, my contacts at the Gestapo have done me proud!

Thanks for covering this story. John Meador is now my pastor, and we’re thrilled. It’s been a long 2 years. (We’ve been very fortunate to have Bill Anderson as our interim, but we needed a pastor.) Pastor John is gracious and his sermons are Bible-centered. He has a true pastors heart, and we know brought him to us. We’re grateful that he was finally obedient to God’s call. ;)
As for the 85% issue, there was a faction that would not have voted for anyone but their favorite candidate, who was not an option, so the 85% is deceptive. There was overwhelming support for him, and most importantly, God made it very clear through a series of “God things” that this is where he was supposed to be.
Finally, with 1500 people voting, 15% is a very small minority, as opposed to 15% of 200 would give one pause.
