Let these stones be a witness to what we have done here this day.

Have you ever seen this?

While indulging my aforementioned favorite sin, gluttony, I was introduced to something in the way of food service which I had never before seen. A pickle bar.

Bowden McElroy took me to Goldie’s hamburger restaurant around the corner from his office today. Their “schtick” is this Pickle Bar, which I immediately informed Bowden would be making the blog. I took a phone pick with my handy, dandy Treo (got yours yet, Micah?) and offer this image to you.

It was filled with four huge bowls, each overrun with different types of pickles.

Wow. No word yet as to whether this particular bar is addressed in Resolution #5.

    Isn’t pickle juice fermented?

I’m sure this will be banned soon!

Only a new Okie would be surprised to see a pickle bar.

There’s also a local recipe that includes a sweet pickle, two crackers, and mayonnaise.

I heard the owner was cited for pouring out the juice from the pickle jars, down the side of a hill. He told the officer he wanted to know if the old adage was true.

    Dill water runs steep.

I don’t know what’s more surprising: that you’ve never seen a pickle bar or that you worked a yiddish word into your post.

    Kevin,

My point exactly. Bowden’s getting me in trouble.

    Clint,

My wife was born and raised in OK and had never heard of such a thing. I think this is an Eastern OK thing. Tell your folks, “hey.”

    Bob,

    *sigh*

    Bowden,

What can I say? Oy vey!

    Art,
I don’t know why, but that has to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen!

You can also find a pickle bar (of lesser proportions) in Arby’s or Quiznos.

When the waitress set our drinks (tea and Dr. Pepper, btw) on the table, she took our order, put down some straws and said, “Enjoy the pickles!”

Imagine the look on my face.

Bowden clearly knew I was lost because he saw my face and immediately explained.

The question is, you’all, is if you have had a deep fried pickle on a stick? Or, for that matter, a deep fried twinkie, or Snickers bar on a stick? These are just some of the down home regional favorites here in Virginia! Being an outsider (a “Yankee” from California), I find these disgusting, along with tea always being sweet (of course, honey, this is the way God made tea) and other regional favorites of the south. Think about all these delictables in light of the recent discussion on the Body Mass Index elsewhere in Blogland!
