Somewhat controversial former president/current Chancellor of Baylor University, Robert Sloan, has been asked to serve as Houston Baptist University’s third President. Before he was President of Baylor University, he was the dean of the school’s Truett Theological Seminary.

Sloan had the faculty twice give him a vote of “no confidence,” but was affirmed by the school’s regents three times. One tally of votes by the regents came within one vote of removing him, though he survived. Mostly, his vision for the school, as expressed by Baylor 2012, was what caused the problems. His vision was apparently in conflict with others. I wonder what vision for HBU Sloan will bring? It is a school that has already come a long way from its humble beginnings,

During E.D. (Doug) Hodo’s Presidency of HBU, the school moved from a trustee body elected by the BGCT to a self perpetuating trustee majority and a “fraternal relationship” with the Southern Baptists of Texas group.
