WMU
Jun 13th, 2006 | By art rogers | Category: Greensboro '06, Live Blogging, SBCThe convention defeated a move by the Executive Committee to “invite” them to affirm their SBC loyalties by becoming an SBC entity.
In effect, the Convention stopped the move to put the WMU in a place where they had to reject the SBC. Of course they couldn’t do that, so they would have been under extreme pressure to become an SBC agency and allow the SBC to begin to assert a level of control over it.
This motion was defeated which is an affirmation of the WMU’s status as an Auxilary.

Thanks for posting comments as you are and have from the SBC annual meeting. I’ve been “out of pocket” you know where and doing you know what–but was asked today in the meetings I’m attending, “So, you’re not in NC?” The person asking wasn’t even an SBC’er, but knows that messengers of the SBC’s churches are meeting in NC this week–and seemed to know how important this year’s meeting is considered among us!
Regarding my “predictions” of last Saturday, posted at your site: As you know, I’m not a prophet or the son of a prophet, or even much of a profit. While I stand by most of the things predicted–and totally stand by the “sack cloth and ashes” intentions though mentioned in jest, my desire primarily was to cause everyone to think. I especially wanted/want the “inner circle” type folk who are reading but not posting comments at any of the popular sites to consider carefully/prayerfully what the issues are, and how all of us feel about them. In the future, the SBC either will be more of a team-effort or it will be very much less effective than it has been (which is not much lately, relative to its size and resources). And, God doesn’t need the SBC–but He will continue to use us if we remain humble, trusting, and obedient.
As far as I know, I don’t substantially disagree with anything you or any other blog editor has posted since December of last year–and I’m amazed at how the cooperation developed over this length of time between total strangers has become a lesson in itself, whatever the meeting’s outcomes may be. Others definitely should take note of this.
Everyone, keep up the good work–and invite someone new to participate in Sunday School with you next week!
