Wade’s Motion 2
Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 @ 7:00 pm
The thinking currently is that Wade will endorse the referral. If we attempt to reverse this, and lose, we lose everything.
As it is, the SBC would take the unprecidented step of asking the IMB BOT answer specific charges.
Frankly, the motion was so complex that it could have been ruled out of order. Instead, a compromise giving both grace to the Messenger, Wade Burleson, and the Trustee system.
Wade is speaking now.
He has endorsed the referral with the suggestion that the selection of the ad hoc committee and is giving background to what brought us here. Bob Clevland is speaking against the referral.
[update]
They called the question before I could speak to it.
Oh well, it was referred.
[/update]
I’m going to speak for it.

It’s 7:20 PM on your blog’s clock. Right now, http://www.baptiststoday.org shows 15 headlines for today–14 of them about SBC happenings. The other–and more important–headline: “Chinese Authorities Detain 28 Christians (Christian Post)”. Man! The SBC needs to get things right tonight and this week, so that we can deal together with the much more important things–like 28 Chinese brothers in the Lord facing what they are now in their homeland.
God, help us today.

I just listened to the debate. Wade was very well spoken in speaking in favor of the referral, but publicly putting the trustee chairman and all trustees on public notice to seriously seek to address the issues openly and forthrightly. It was shocking to me that Bobby Welch, the moderator, spoke in favor of the referral when he knows the moderator/chair should be as neutral as possible in such a situation. I was watching online, and his body language/facial expressions indicated extreme discomfort with the points being made by those speaking against referral. No one else was making the points he wanted made, so he just did it himself!
Even though it was referred, the IMB trustees are now on the spot to address these issues seriously. If they do not, they will have no reasonable excuses next year.
