YLS – 2

The Young Leaders’ Summit was pretty cool. Marty Duren’s band was there to lead worship. We were meeting and greeting like crazy. At one point I looked up and realized I was a part of “Bloggers Row” which started with Steve McCoy and Joe Thorn at the top and included Marty Duren, Tim Sweatman, Kevin Bussey, Jeff Richard Young, Wes Kenney, Joel Rainey Tad Thompson and Wade Burleson. I am sure I left someone out.

I had great conversations with all of those folks, plus David Rogers, Ed Stetzer and Jerry Rankin. I found out this week that Dr. Rankin was the college roommate of my uncle Ross Rogers. I shared that with him and he spoke kindly of my uncle. Many of you may remember telling you that some of the members of my family are the spiritual giants to whom I look up. Ross is one of the main ones. Maybe I am just a soft touch, but it makes me feel good about Dr. Rankin to know he has a good memory of one of my most favorite people. One more thing for me to like about him.

The Summit was good. It really did last only about 45 mins. Dr. Draper spoke candidly about the influence of Younger Leaders and told us to keep blogging, but be nice.

Dr. Rankin was next and he shared a vision of completing the Great Commission. He said that it would not happen during his leadership, but felt that some in the room could see it done.

Doug Cherry shared about the mindset of college students today. They are coming from a completely secular mindset in Pennsylvania, where he ministers to students on a college campus with his wife, Kiki.

Finally, Jeff Iorg, President of Golden Gate Seminary, talked about keeping the laser beam focus on the mission. Other things happen and we must deal with them, but we must be focused on reaching the world.

To top it off, Tim Sweatman closed us in prayer.

After everything, we visited and talked forever and Ed Stetzer threw us out into the street at midnight.

I am really amazed and excited about the Missional Network that NAMB is putting together. I have to say, today has been a great day.

Dude, how did I miss you? I was there the whole time and even stayed late! I don’t know what you look like, but we’ve got to meet tomorrow!

I can’t believe you didn’t include Ed Stetzer’s flattering description of you. If you don’t post it, I may have to… ;-)
