As has been mentioned on earlier comment strings, and a post or two, the rumor that is circulating throughout the South is that Frank Page is a “Liberal” or even a “Moderate.” The specific instance is that he voiced the opinion that the Russell Dilday firing was political and inappropriate. In so doing, those who are spreading the “word of mouth” take on Page through the South have hung on him the unsavory & non-conservative moniker.
The news about this is that Sutton was to replace Page as a true conservative challenger to Floyd, who has his share of detractors. For those who dislike Floyd, a three man race is sure to eliminate him. For those who like him, Sutton dropping out is music to their ears.
Many in the South have said that if the race is between Floyd and Page, they would “hold their nose and vote for Floyd.” I put that in quotes because it is a direct quote to me.
If it is a two man race, it may well be a race that cuts across generational lines. YSBC (Young SBC) will read the blogs and they trend Page. The veterans who trust the word of mouth network more will be afraid of him. This could be a nail biter, dependant on actually getting out the vote.

For what its worth:
Page has picked up the endorsement of his state convention. No suprise I’m sure. Carlyle (sp?) Driggers the highest ranking SBC employee in SC personally endorsed him in this week’s state paper. Three things to consider about Driggers:
1. He was on the committee that reviewed CP giving and initially recommended the implementation of a higher standard of giving for leaders.
2. He is retiring next year so politically he has nothing to lose (or gain).
3. Obviously he is leading the charge for his hometown nominee.

They are re-defining “Liberal or Moderate” to be anyone who doesn’t agree with the establishment!
