Frank Page now has a person to nominate him for the Presidency of the SBC. Forrest Pollock, a Florida pastor now has the honor. As you may know, who nominates you for a position in the SBC matters.
I don’t know much about Pollock, but I am guessing he is a rock solid conservative who pastors a church that gives significantly to the Cooperative Program. He will also have to be very articulate and succinct. Page would be foolish to allow anyone other than that to be the one to nominate him. Page is not a fool.
ABP has the story here:
Forrest Pollock to nominate Page for Southern Baptist presidency.
Meanwhile, Baptist Press has yet to run such a story about Page or announced nominee for 1VP, Mark Dever.
Is there a locktight control over the SBC and its entities? No. Not locktight.
Is there a locktight control over the information disseminated by the Baptist Press? Yes.
Just check what did make the BP:
Inquiry into IMB trustee actions sought by board member.
If it involves publicizing potential moves by Wade Burleson to be voted on by the SBC it is out within 24 hours at BP.
If a candidate for SBC positions outside the power structure endorsement is mentioned, it is apparently not news for the BP. Nothing against the folks at BP. Many problem with whoever prevents them from doing their job.
Don’t think this is an issue for folks like me? Check the results of my internet poll right now.

Dear Brother Art,
I know Forrest Pollock personally, but not well. He is a former pastor of my church, in 1991-92, I think. He has visited here with his family once during my tenure, and was very gracious to me in our brief conversations. The people of the church remember him fondly.
He is also the person who baptized more than 150 in a single day recently, which was reported in BP. That’s how he gained some name recognition nationally.
O don’t know exactly how old he is, but in our old church pictures from 1991, he looks all of 25, which makes him about 40-45 now. I believe according to your standards, that makes him a “younger leader,” right?!?
Love in Christ,
Jeff

Here’s a current bio on Forrest Pollock from the Bell Shoals BC Web site.
http://www.bellshoals.com/ministries/details.asp?id=222
I don’t know Forrest all that intimately but have had a mutual ministry involvement with him for several years. He’s a godly man, rock solid, has a heartbeat for missions and ministry, and, though his name may be new to some, he’s not unknown by any means – particularly in the mega-metro church group.
Additionally, his current church (Bell Shoals) and and his previous church (Istrouma) are well-known in their respective states. This is on top of his prior tenure as an associate at Prestonwood.
He’ll easily be able to carry the mail in a nomination presentation.
