Morris Champman weighs in on Presidential endorsements

TAGS: None

The question has been bouncing around everywhere as to the appropriateness of SBC entity heads endorsing people for office within the SBC.

Yesterday, I found Paige Patterson’s endorsement of Ronnie Floyd:

Patterson endorses Floyd as a man Southern Baptists need

This morning I found Morris Chapman discussing the concept:

Diminishing Returns

Must reads.

The problem with us Southern Baptists is that we have become political inside and outside of our churches. Where in the Bible does Christ mention that we should follow any person, organization or group? Christ speaks of no person, organization or group and everyone who is any student of the the Word of God. Our organization has chosen to elect leaders much like the political groups and that’s been our downfall. We follow some man’s or groups thoughts about the Word of God and then refer to the Bible. One group wins one time and another the next.
To often and I should say far to often, we let seminary scholars or pastors lead us like THEY are the direct lines to God. Ever heard of the Catholic church and priests? It looks very much like that in “seminary churches” of the SBC today. Personally, I had rather listen to my 96 year old grandfather who has preached for over 64 years as any seminary scholar pastor as any one leader of the SBC, today or yesterday.
SBC quit putting your faith in “so called educated pastors” and read the Word of God.
A long time SBC member, who is considering getting out of this arrogant organization.

You can bet mom’s gravy and biscut on that and I’ll take Ist century Christianity/Holy Spirit over any famous author, writer, preacher or “learned preacher” of the last 1900 years, any day of my life. It’s so simple.
