On top of my super long post about my days at SWBTS, some other things are going on that need to be highlighted.
First of all, Ronnie Floyd news is dominating the airwaves. Tad Thompson had asked for and received a commitment to do a blog interview with Ronnie. He has since declined. You should read the full story at Tad’s blog:
Now an article from the Florida Baptist Witness, ‘Dismal’ CP support should invalidate Floyd for SBC president, reveals that Ronnie’s church gives .27% (read: point two-seven percent) of their undesignated receipts to the Cooperative Program. Several people have speculated that the discussion of FBC Woodstock’s low giving to the CP (between two and three percent) played a role in Johnny Hunt’s removal of himself from consideration for the Presidency.
If this is true, it would be hard for many to understand why Ronnie Floyd would allow himself to be put forward, knowing about his own church’s cooperation. Perhaps giving had nothing to do with Hunt’s withdrawal. Floyd’s candidacy would seem to indicate this.
Regardless of Hunt’s situation, this is sure to be an albatross around Floyd’s neck. The actual giving is $32,000 out of a budget of $12 million. FBC Springdale also gave an additional $180,000 straight to the SBC, bypassing the Arkansas Baptist Convention and its ministries. Even if you add these two totals together, you still come up with 1.8% given to Southern Baptist cooperative efforts. It is going to be hard for Floyd to overcome these numbers.
[edit]
There is an interesting table at Wes Kenney’s blog.
Discussions ongoing here:
Marty is too busy today to blog, so not much at SBC Outpost
Tim Sweatman did some serious calculations and projected what Kentucky’s CP giving would be if we all gave like Springdale. You can read it at:
and find the number crunching in the comment section.

I have removed the section about Bobby Welch resigning at FBC Daytona. Apparently it was a rumor.
One of the downsides of the blogosphere is that there is no filtering of information. This can lead to false stories getting passed rapidly to others, and then it perpetuates.
I apologize for the misinformation.

What a day.

You are good. I just read that on Dr. Floyd and came to let you know. I agree that we should at least give 10% to the CP. I know that here in Ok the money is separated 60% to 40% BGCO to SBC and different states do it different also but just think how much more would be available if every church did this. Kinda like if every member in the church gave the 10% the church would never hurt for money.
Keep up the good work of keeping us informed.

I called FBC Daytona this morning and “the pastor’s secretary” told me that Bobby Welch did not resign last night and that she “did not know where that rumor came from.”
Curiouser and curiouser.

Art,
You might be interested in an exercise I did in a comment on my blog post about Floyd’s nomination. I took the percentages that FBCS/CPH gave to CP and Lottie & Annie and applied them to the KBC based on the 2004 annual. I won’t repeat the stats here, but if KBC churches followed Ronnie Floyd’s example that it would make a HUGE negative impact on the work of the KBC and SBC.

In my previous comment, “that it would make” should actually read “that would have.” It must be getting late.
