The Dobbs’ Speak

TAGS: None

First I want to guide you to Micah Fries’ blog for the full details of the Dobbs’ now public words in response to the IMB’s official statement released by Baptist Press.

You can read his article at friesville.

I talked to Wyman personally in Memphis last week. I can honestly say that I have never met a more humble and genuine person in my entire life. He was kind and gracious – and never spoke in negative terms about the IMB, even though he could have. I know many people whom I consider to be very godly but who might have done so after the experience the Dobbs’ have just had.

After reading the full statement released by the IMB, Wyman and his pastor both affirmed that it was not the agreed upon wording arrived at by Dr. Fort and the Dobbs.

I dare not speculate about how the agreed upon statement made its way to what was released and what changed it along the way. It is sufficient to say that whatever the IMB’s representative, Dr. Fort, authored and confirmed with Wyman should alone be what was released. To alter it in any way is a rank violation of trust and reveals a break in integrity somewhere in the IMB. To alter it so severly reveals dramatic foundational cracks in the soul of one of our most cherished and vital institutions.

The day after it was released, Wyman asked me specifically if I thought he should respond publicly to the statement. I told him that if his job was his priority, that he should not. I am glad to see that Wyman is a man of integrity, the depth of which drives him to count the cost and speak the truth regardless of the potential personal consequences. This is exactly who we need on the field.

An investigation of this issue is warrented and full disclosure is deserved. It may be argued that the average Southern Baptist does not deserve full disclosure of the process. While I would strongly disagree, it can not be argued that the Dobbs’ do not deserve it.

    Brother Art,

It is the same song, just different singers. God bless Brother Dodds. May his tribe increase.

May your tribe increase also, Brother Art.

Thanks, Villa, but my wife says we are done increasing the tribe. The four of us are all we need. ;)

(This is a joke and by no means reflects a bias against those who have large families. I honor and respect that commitment and am thrilled for Jeff Young and the (relatively) new addition to his family.)
