Since I was unable to attend the meetings in Tampa myself, I am reading what others who are there are writing and then posting in the late morning, early afternoon. Look for this again tomorrow.
Having just read Wade Burleson‘s post this morning, I can report that all went well as to the things to which I called your attention yesterday. Well, so far, so good, that is. We will see what we see.
Here’s the rundown so far…
1. Closed door sessions with Wade Burleson, dealing with his situation.
Wade did go to the “Trustee Forum” last night upon the advice of a fellow Trustee who said that it might look like he was unwilling to work with the others if he were absent. Since Wade had not considered that and since that is specifically the current version of the charge against him, he went.
I say, of course, current version of the charge against him, because as we all know, originally it was “slander” and “gossip,” then “broken trust” and “resistance to accountability” the next day. It has morphed to “not playing well with others” (my spin, no one else’s) in today’s world.
Wade posts that he can not share what went on, obviously, but was glad he went. I can only take this as a great report. Moreover, Wade says that the issue of his removal will be delt with in plenary, or “open,” session today. That is great news and gives great hope for honesty and integrity within the Board. I give glory to God for this – it is answer to prayer.
2. As to Trustee communication, it has not been addressed. Continue to look for it.
3. No attack on Wade’s character is yet to surface. While this is positive, I would not relax yet. If Wade were to be the subject of attack, they would want it to be in public session, so that the substance of the attack gets out. I would expect such today as they deal with Wade’s situation, if it were to occur. However, I am optimistic that it will not occur.
I think that an attack on Wade’s character will only serve to prove a conspiracy of sorts. The Trustees have the opportunity to difuse the situation and I am expecting them to take it. Throwing gas on the fire will only get them burned and I think they realize that very well after the last two months.
Finally, Marty Duren posted that he hopes the policies will be on the table. I posted yesterday that I didn’t think there would be any way for those policies to come up. I stand by that statement, although I wish it were otherwise. Again, after the release of the rationales and statements by those supporting the policies, I am sure that these will stand until the SBC as a whole removes them if they do – in Greensboro.

Dear Art,
I think we should have set up streaming video of all sessions of this meeting. Maybe we could have given Dr. B. some of those video glasses like on Mission Impossible. I’m having a hard time waiting!
Love in Christ,
Jeff
